Cocentric OFM Custom Probes

Cerebral open flow microperfusion (cOFM) is a membrane-free sampling technique for long-term sampling of cerebral interstitial fluid (cISF).  Many brain regions can be targeted by standard OFM probes; however, if a custom probe is required, please contact BASi for available configurations.

Cerebral open flow microperfusion (cOFM) is a membrane-free sampling technique for long term sampling of cerebral interstitial fluid and cerebrospinal fluid. Macroscopic openings in the cOFM probe avoid membrane-related problems such as biofouling, protein clotting, high molecular weight cut-off and the exclusion of large and lipophilic substances. cOFM is thus uniquely suited for unlimited monitoring of any substance in the cerebral interstitial fluid. cOFM probes are designed to elicit minimal tissue reaction and reestablishment of the blood brain barrier within 14 days after implantation along with the following:

  • Probes are membrane free push-pull type probes with macroscopic openings
  • Allows sampling of Peptides, Proteins, Antibodies, Lipophilic Substances, Bound and Unbound Drugs, Enzymes, Nanocarriers, Vesicles and Cells
  • Allows sampling of drugs and endogenous substances in brain tissue with an intact BBB.
  • Allows continuous monitoring of drug transport across the intact BBB.
  • Allows long-term monitoring for up to 30 days

cOFM probes have four components:  guide, healing dummy, sampling insert and locking wedge. 

Please refer to the schematic below when selecting the cOFM probe.

The notation of the product numbers refers to the length of the guide, open surface and healing dummy or sampling insert. 

For example:  cOFM-P-6-1; X=6, Y=1, Z=7.  Individual replacement components for this cOFM probe kit would be ordered as:  cOFM-GD-6-1, cOFM-D-7 and cOFM-S-7
