Charles N. Reilley and Royce W. Murray Award – SEAC
The SEAC Awards session brings together leaders in the field of electroanalytical chemistry to honor the achievements of the Reilley Awardee and the Murray Awardee. The symposium will highlight advances in fundamental electrochemistry, electrochemical synthesis, ion selective electrodes, instrumentation, processes occurring at the electrode solution interface, nanoscale electrochemistry, operando measurements, and energy conversion and storage.
The Charles N. Reilley Award in Electroanalytical Chemistry is given in memory of one of the most distinguished analytical chemists of the 20th century. Reilley’s interests were both fundamental and broad; he made seminal contributions not only to electroanalysis, but also optical spectroscopy, NMR, chromatography, data analysis, instrumentation, and surface analysis. Reilley is central in the history of the Society for Electroanalytical Chemistry, which was formed following his death in 1981, as a vehicle for managing the award.
Susan M. Lunte is the Ralph N. Adams Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Director of the Adams Institute for Bioanalytical Chemistry, and Director of the NIH COBRE Center for Molecular Analysis of Disease Pathways at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS. She received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Kalamazoo College and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 1984 from Purdue University. Dr. Lunte served as an associate editor and then Editor-in-Chief of Analytical Methods between 2009-2017 and is currently on the Editorial Board of the Analyst. From 2013-2018 she was a member of the NIH Instrumentation and Systems Development Study Section and served as Chair in 2017-18. Dr. Lunte is a Fellow of the RSC, AAPS, ACS, AAAS and AIMBE. Most recently, she was recipient of the ANACHEM Award in 2018 and the ACS-ANL Roland F. Hirsch Distinguished Service Award in 2021. In 2019 she was a visiting Faculty Fellow at Paris Tech in France as well as the University of Tasmania in Australia. Dr. Lunte's research interests include the development of new methodologies for separation and detection of peptides, amino acids, neurotransmitters and pharmaceuticals in biological fluids. This includes separation-based sensors for the continuous monitoring of drugs and neurotransmitters in freely roaming animals and new methodologies for the determination of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in cells.

The SEAC Service Award is named in honor of one of the founders of SEAC and a major contributor to founding SEAC, the SEAC endowment and establishment of the Reilley award. Candidates may be nominated by any member of SEAC.
Jonathon O. Howell is a senior scientist retired from Bioanalytical Systems, Inc. in West Lafayette, IN (BASi Research Products is now a division of Inotiv). He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Purdue University in 1980. He joined BASi in 1985 after completing his Ph.D. from Indiana University in R. Mark Wightman’s laboratory. His responsibilities included development of electrochemical products for research and teaching, customer product support and education, applications development, and technical writing. Areas of interest are microelectrodes, instrument and cell design, quantitative analysis, and bioanalytical applications. Jon served on the SEAC Board of Directors from 2004-2009 and as Secretary from 2006-2012.

Check out these pictures from the reception dinner at SEAC Meeting in Pittcon 2025. BASi Research Products has been a proud sponsor for Charles N Reilley Award since 1983. Many congratulations to our own BASi ex-employee Dr. Susan Lunte for receiving this award in 2025. Another proud mention who is also a BASi ex-employee is Dr. Jonathon Howell who is the proud recipient of the Peter T. Kissinger SEAC Service Award.
Once again, many congratulations to award winners and hope to see you all at ACS Spring 2025.
Best,
BASi Marketing Team
