BASi EC News - AUGUST 2008

American Chemical Society Fall Meeting
Philadelphia
August 18 - 20, 2008

BASi will exhibit in Booth No. 1821 at the 2008 ACS Fall Meeting in Philadelphia next week. We will again be displaying our line of epsilon instruments. Please stop by the booth to see the latest features of the epsilon, or to discuss any of our products. Find complete information about the meeting at the ACS website

Congratulations to R. Mark Wightman for receiving the ACS Award in Analytical Chemistry. The award symposium will take place Monday afternoon, August 18, from 1:05 to 4:55 in the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Room 110 A/B.

SPECIAL ACS PROMOTION -Drawing for $500 product credit
Visit the BASi booth (1821), mention this promotion to Jon, get your name badge scanned and you will be entered in a drawing to win a $500 credit toward BASi products. This would be an easy way to replenish your reference electrodes, add a few more voltammetry electrodes to your lab supplies or to combine with other funds to purchase products of greater value. (Sorry, this can't apply to outstanding BASi invoices.

Special-Order Electrodes

Did you know BASi makes special-order electrodes - different sizes and materials than our stock electrodes. Send an email to Jon Howell with your specifications, and we will quickly prepare a quotation for you. Here is a sampling of the special electrodes we have made:

  • Voltammetry and RDE electrodes
  • 4, 5 and 6 mm glassy carbon (body diameter 11.2 mm)
  • Voltammetry electrodes with shorter & longer lengths of 3 cm and 10 - 11 cm
  • 3 mm diameter Au and Pt
  • 1 and 2 mm glassy carbon
  • Voltammetry/RDE electrodes of the following materials: Cu, Ta, 303 S.S., 316 S.S., Fe, Ir, Co, Ni, Pb, Zn, Al, Ti, W, Cd, Zr, Sn, Bi

Microelectrodes

  • Platinum - 5, 25 and 50 um
  • Gold - 5 and 25 um
  • Carbon - 33 um
  • Silver - 25 and 50 um
  • Ni - 10 and 25 um

DropSens Screen-Printed Electrodes

DropSens manufactures and commercializes screen-printed electrodes, as well as cables and accessories that allow using the electrodes with any kind of potentiostat. Besides the stock products shown in the catalog, DropSens can develop customized screen-printed electrodes based on customer's requirements; different designs (configuration and dimensions) and inks (carbon, gold, platinum, silver, silver/silver chloride...) can be combined in the customized electrodes.

Moreover, DropSens manufactures portable potentiostats (i.e. ref. STAT200), also customizable according to client needs. For more information, visit www.dropsens.com or contact info@dropsens.com.

Electrode samples will be on display in the BASi booth at the ACS exhibition.

KinFitSim: Kinetics Simulation and Fitting Software

KinFitSim is a digital simulation program for homogeneous kinetic chemical reaction mechanisms. The software was developed by Professor Irina Svir as a general use package that is very flexible, yet powerful and can be used in many applications in teaching and research for photochemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemical investigations.

  • User-friendly, Windows® interface
  • User-specified homogeneous reaction mechanism
  • Import photochemical data for fitting
  • Automatic parameter optimization for best fit to experimental data
  • Three methods of numerical simulation
  • Four fitting optimization methods

Figure shows concentrations of three species taking part in an oscillating chemical mechanism (Briggs-Rauscher reaction) simulated using KinFitSim.

For more information, contact Dr. Irina B. Svir at irina.svir@kture.kharkov.ua or view a list of publications on the web.

To see a demonstration of this software, stop by the BASi booth at the ACS show.

BASi is searching for a person to sell and support the company's electroanalytical products. Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the USA, able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, have at least a B.S. in chemistry or related field and a general knowledge of electroanalytical chemistry. Familiarity with MS Windows Office applications is expected. Sales experience, a mechanical and electronic aptitude and fluency in Spanish are beneficial. The qualified candidate must be an energetic self-starter, able to multi-task and to work in a team environment, have a pleasant, outgoing personality with a " can-do" attitude and the ability to interact with customers and BASi staff on a professional level.

BASi electrochemistry products are sold to industrial, academic, and government laboratories worldwide. This position involves both direct customer interaction (phone calls, written correspondence, telemarketing, exhibitions, demonstrations, etc.) and occasional laboratory work (evaluating customer samples, developing short application notes, evaluating new products, etc.). Some overnight travel is required and international travel is possible. The position is located in West Lafayette, IN.

If you have an interest in this position and will be attending ACS in Philadelphia next week, stop by the BASi booth (1821) and meet with our representative, Jon Howell, who will be able to answer your questions and provide more information.
